A lengthy police standoff at a home in Citrus Heights ended Saturday evening after officers found a man inside with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The four-hour standoff in the 7100 block of Cloverleaf Way ended with the unidentified man being rushed to an area hospital.
Citrus Heights police spokesman Anthony Boehle said he had no details on the injuries, but said the man “was unresponsive” when police entered the home.
Boehle said police responded to a midafternoon call from the home about a domestic dispute. Having received information that there were weapons in the home, dispatchers called in the Citrus Heights SWAT team.

As officers arrived, they heard “one lone gunshot” inside the house, he said. Although the call was about a domestic incident, Boehle said the man was believed to be alone throughout the afternoon.
Unable to reach the man by phone, Boehle said a Sacramento County sheriff’s robot was called in. The robot was able to get a video image of the injured occupant, and police then entered the home.
The incident brought life to a standstill for several blocks around the home, which is near Lichen Elementary School. While there were no evacuations, police told residents to “shelter in place,” Boehle said.
