The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department said Sunday that it had arrested a suspect in the early morning shooting death of Darien McLaurin, 23, outside a New Year’s Eve party in Rancho Cordova.
Marcus Gammage, 19, was located in Tracy and arrested without incident, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Department, which provides law enforcement services for the city of Rancho Cordova. He was booked into Sacramento County Main Jail on the charge of murder and is ineligible for bail. He is scheduled for arraignment Tuesday in Sacramento County Superior Court.
The shooting occurred shortly before 2 a.m. Friday as a small party was breaking up in the 3200 block of Nosler Court in Rancho Cordova, according to the news release. Deputies said Gammage pulled a gun and shot McLaurin during a dispute outside the residence.
