The Auburn Police Department is accepting applications for its Citizens' Awareness Academy.

Twenty-five openings are available for the 11-week program that starts Feb. 24. Participants can learn about municipal policing procedures used in patrol, investigations, crime prevention, Neighborhood Watch, vehicle operations, arrests, emergency and inter-agency communications. An optional day at the shooting range also is planned, according to a Police Department news release.

Applications will be accepted until Feb. 23, a day before the program starts. If the class is filled, applicants may be placed on a waiting list for the next session.

The academy will meet from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesdays through May 4 in the Rose Room at City Hall, 1225 Lincoln Way, Auburn.

Participants must live in the Auburn area, have no felony convictions and be at least 18 years old. Younger participants will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

For more information or to apply, call the Auburn Police Department at 530-823-4237, ext. 202, or send an email to apdvolunteer@auburn.ca.gov.
