Update: Highway 50 reopens after blasting to remove boulder
Highway 50 at Wrights Lake Road in Kyburz was reported clear as of 7 p.m. Wednesday after being partially blocked by a boulder.
Blasting was used to break up a boulder that fell into the westbound lane of Highway 50 early Wednesday afternoon.
The state Department of Transportation reported at 12:30 p.m. that one-way traffic control was in effect near Kyburz as crews began work to remove the boulder.
The highway was closed about 4:20 p.m. to allow the use of explosives and was reopened by 4:30, as Caltrans reported that the blasting was successful . One-way traffic control remained in effect until the debris was cleared from the roadway.
