Three people were injured in an apartment fire in the Arden Arcade area Tuesday night.
The fire was reported at 6:42 p.m. in the 2500 block of Wittkop Way, south of Arden Way and west of Fulton Avenue. Four people were inside the apartment when they called 911 and were advised to get out of the residence, said Capt. Brian Gonsalves, spokesman for the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District.
Gonsalves said two people suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to an area hospital for treatment. A third person sustained injury to an ankle but declined to go to the hospital, he said.
Two dogs died in the fire, which started in the kitchen, Gonsalves said.

The fire was contained to the downstairs apartment where the fire started, but upstairs units sustained smoke damage, Gonsalves said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
