Officers need help in finding the driver and passengers in a car that apparently chased after another motorist on Fulton Avenue, eventually running him off the road and causing his death.
The California Highway Patrol said Willis Moffett, 58, of Citrus Heights was southbound on Fulton Avenue about 2:45 a.m. Saturday. Alongside, driving at a high rate of speed, was a stolen, silver Pontiac Grand Am with three men inside.
Earlier this week, the CHP said a witness told officers that the drivers of the two cars appeared to be racing. However, the CHP said Thursday a witness statement leads them to believe that Moffett was being chased down Fulton Avenue.
For an unknown reason, the driver of the other car turned in front of Moffett. Both vehicles then went off the road near Michelle Drive and the driver’s side of Moffett’s car struck a light pole, killing him.
