A man died Wednesday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 16 near the town of Madison in Yolo County.
The man was driving a 2006 PT Cruiser eastbound on Highway 16, west of County Road 88B, shortly before 3 p.m., when it drifted into oncoming traffic, as if the driver were attempting to pass, a witness told the California Highway Patrol. The vehicle then continued toward the north shoulder. The witness reported that the driver appeared to be unconscious, according to a CHP news release.
The vehicle ran off the north side of the roadway, grazed a telephone pole and overturned onto its side in a field. The driver, whose name, age and city of residence were not released, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.
CHP officials said the cause of the crash is under investigation.
