A 3-year-old boy died from injuries suffered Thursday when the car in which he was riding collided with an SUV on a wet road in El Dorado County.
The unidentified child was being driven in a car by Jacob Jimenez, 43, of Somerset at 4 p.m. Thursday southbound on Mt. Aukum Road, north of Outingdale Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Jimenez lost control of his car and traveled into the oncoming lane. The right side of the car hit the front end of a northbound SUV.
The boy, who was in a child’s safety seat in the right rear of the car, died. Jimenez suffered major injuries and was transported to Marshall Hospital. The SUV driver suffered minor injuries.

The 1994 Lexus sedan driven by Jimenez had tires in poor condition, the tread having been worn down, according to the CHP. The roadway was also wet from rain.
