A man found shot in the head on Friday night committed suicide following an argument with family members, according to Elk Grove police.

Officers responded to the 9900 block of Bruceville Road at 10:15 p.m. Friday where they found a man with a gunshot to the head. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police found a handgun nearby.

According to Elk Grove police, the man had argued earlier with his girlfriend and family members. The man shot at family members as they fled and shortly after turned the gun on himself. No further injuries were reported.

Officials say string of incidents this week were not connected. On Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016, another fatal shooting occurred near the previous incidents of violence.

The incident occurred with the Elk Grove community on edge following a week of violence, including a drive-by shooting followed by a car crashing into a restaurant on Thursday.

Friday’s shooting was located near the site of three incidents earlier in the week. A 14-year-old student was robbed at gunpoint Wednesday by three teens as he walked home from Toby Johnson Middle School.

On Thursday, a 16-year-old Franklin High School student was arrested for posting a threat on Twitter warning others not to attend school on Friday. The post was accompanied by a picture of a person wearing a ski mask and holding what appeared to be an assault rifle.

Also on Thursday, shots were exchanged at several locations, and up to three vehicles sped through town before one crashed into a Wrap & Roll Sushi Burrito restaurant at the intersection of Atkins Drive and Whitelock Parkway. Four suspects were arrested Friday on charges including participation in a street gang and possession of marijuana for sale.
