A Cameron Park man is in El Dorado County jail, accused of pouring gasoline on his girlfriend and setting her on fire.

Sheriff’s deputies responded late Thursday evening to a report of a woman screaming in the 2700 block of La Crescenta Drive in Cameron Park. When they arrived, deputies found a woman with serious burns on her lower body, according to an El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office news release. Paramedics took the woman to an emergency room burn unit for evaluation and treatment.

Sheriff’s officials said the burns were sustained during an argument.

Detectives assisting the investigation arrested 28-year-old Curtis Menezes, the woman’s boyfriend. Menezes allegedly poured gasoline on the woman and set her on fire.

Menezes was booked on suspicion of assault with a caustic chemical and was jailed in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Anyone with additional information is asked to call Detective Bryan Payne at 530-642-4710.
