A person searching a dumpster for cans came across a human fetus at about 4 p.m. Sunday in Stockton, in the 1200 block of Occidental Avenue in the Civic District, a police spokesman said.
“That person immediately did the right thing and called the police,” said Officer Joseph Silva, public information officer for the Stockton Police Department.
Medics were summoned to the scene and quickly determined the fetus was not alive.
“This is a very active ongoing investigation,” Silva said. “We called in our family-crimes detectives, who investigate child deaths. We don’t yet know how long the fetus was in the dumpster. Right now, we’re still trying to determine how old it is.”
