2 arrested, accused of hate crime on UC Davis campus
Two men have been arrested on suspicion of assault and battery and committing a hate crime involving a UC Davis student.
The student, who is African American, reported being assaulted while walking in the West Village area near her residence about 3 a.m. Monday, according to university spokesman Andy Fell.
Lonny Doyal Lee, 24, of West Sacramento and Justin Sheppard, 22, of Sacramento were arrested on suspicion of assault, committing a hate crime and public intoxication.
A third man, Jake Lee of West Sacramento, was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication. None of the three was a UC Davis student, the university said.
Fell said the woman was not sexually assaulted and did not require medical aid. He had no further information Tuesday on what acts constituted a hate crime.
UC Davis Chancellor Linda P.B. Katehi issued a statement condemning hate crimes.
