The driver of a sport-utility vehicle who died Wednesday morning when her vehicle traveled into the path of an oncoming logging truck in Placer County has been identified by authorities.

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office identified the driver as Kristin Michele Emmert, 45, of Auburn.

Emmert’s SUV was westbound on Foresthill Road at a high rate of speed near lower Lake Clementine about 7 a.m. when the vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane, colliding head-on with the logging truck pulling an empty trailer.

Emmert, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The truck driver suffered minor injuries, the CHP said.
