A traffic stop on Interstate 80 in Truckee has resulted in the arrest of a man wanted in Fresno and Florida on murder charges.
Police say the man and his female passenger, who also was arrested Saturday, are suspected of being on a cross-country shopping spree with more than 100 fraudulent credit cards.
McKinley Calvin Williams, 33, of Elk Grove and Karion Jennae Bickham, 23, of Kennesaw, Ga., identified themselves with Florida driver’s licenses when stopped at 10:30 p.m. Saturday by officers from the California Highway Patrol and Truckee Police Department.
“These are big-time criminals with multiple IDs and addresses, so those may or may not be their current towns,” Truckee police Sgt. Robert Womack said.

Williams, who originally gave officers a different name, was found to have outstanding warrants for a killing in Fresno and another in Florida, according to the Police Department. The Fresno bail was set at $1 million.
According to a Fresno Bee report, Williams is accused in the shooting death of Johnnie Massey, 28, of Fresno in a hotel parking lot there on April 20, 2012.
The traffic stop, for vehicle violations on westbound I-80 near Donner Lake, resulted in a drug alert by a police search dog, which caused officers to investigate the vehicle’s contents, Womack said.
The search turned up a small amount of marijuana and more than 100 credit cards in an unidentified female’s name. Officers also found a second Florida driver’s license with Bickham’s photo and a fictitious name that matched the name on the credit cards.
Also found were multiple prepaid gift cards, altered debit cards, prepaid cash cards and numerous receipts of recent transactions for high-end apparel from various states across the country.
The two were booked into the Truckee jail on fraud charges. Womack said Monday that Bickham had been released on bail and Williams “will be extradited according to which agency wants him most.”
It’s unclear how many fraud victims are associated with the case, and the department will continue the investigation, the police report said. Anyone with information can call the investigations unit at (530) 550-2335.
Neither Williams nor Bickham has any known ties to the Truckee area and “it is believed they were traveling through to continue their fraudulent, multi-state shopping spree,” the release said.
