Two people who died late Friday night in a single-vehicle crash near Courtland have been identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as Francisco Lozano Rodriguez and Lillian Zhang, both 23 and Elk Grove residents.
A third person in the vehicle, a 24-year-old man also from Elk Grove, was injured in the crash. His name has not been released.
Lozano Rodriguez, the driver, was speeding in a 2003 Toyota southbound on Highway 160 south of Wilson Road at about 11:25 p.m. when he made an unsafe turn and the vehicle left the roadway, a California Highway Patrol news release states.
Authorities said the Toyota went off the road and rotated clockwise. The left side of the vehicle struck a large tree along the west side of the roadway and it came to rest on its side, officials said.
