A Yuba City woman was taken to a hospital with major injuries Thursday morning after apparently spending the night in a vehicle that had overturned in an irrigation canal.
The single-vehicle crash occurred sometime late Wednesday evening on a private road north of Madison and Fruitridge roads in Sutter County, according to a California Highway Patrol news release. The driver, identified by the CHP as Iramene Louis, 30, lost control of her 2004 Volkswagen Passat and it overturned in the canal, coming to rest on its wheels. The canal contained puddles of water, but was not full.
The vehicle was found Thursday morning by an area resident. The CHP responded to the site and Louis was taken by ambulance to Rideout Memorial Hospital in Marysville.
CHP officials said it appeared that Louis was not using a seat belt when the crash occurred.
