Placer County sheriff’s officials are asking the public’s help in finding the people who vandalized a statue at a Kings Beach church earlier this month.
Similar crimes have occurred at numerous churches in Placer and Washoe counties over the past several months, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.
About 7:30 p.m. Feb. 14, someone vandalized the Virgin Mary statue at Our Lady of the Lake Church in Kings Beach. The statue’s head and fingers were broken off and a plaque belonging to the church was defaced. The statue’s broken fingers were left at the scene, but the head was not recovered.
The Placer County Sheriff’s Office is working with other agencies, including the FBI, in the investigation. Investigators believe the Kings Beach case and the incidents at other churches are connected.
