Sacramento police arrested a man in for the shooting of two people, including a woman who was found walking down the road with a serious head wound.

Officers arrested Dennis Smith, 55, on Wednesday on suspicion of attempted homicide.

Officers said they were called about 2 a.m. Tuesday to the 6700 block of Power Inn Road, where a shooting was said to have occurred. Once there, officers found a man with a gunshot wound to his upper body.

He was taken to a hospital where he was reported in stable condition Friday. Officers at the scene were told that the man’s girlfriend, who was not there, also was shot.

They found her within minutes, walking near Elder Creek Road and 75th Street, about a mile from the shooting scene.

The woman, suffering from a head wound, was taken to the hospital, where it was confirmed that she had been shot. She remained Friday in critical but stable condition, according to a police press release.

During an investigation, Smith was determined to be the shooter, according to police. He was taken into custody on Wednesday.

A motive has not been determined; detectives believe Smith and the two victims knew each other.
