A 37-year-old woman died Thursday morning and an Oregon man was injured in Yolo County when the vehicle the woman was driving crossed into opposing traffic on Interstate 5.
The crash occurred about 8:30 a.m. as the woman was driving a 1996 Pontiac southbound on I-5, south of the County Road 91B overcrossing, north of the Zamora exit. She for some reason allowed her vehicle to cross into the center divider and then into the northbound lanes, according to a California Highway Patrol news release.
A 2015 Toyota driven by a 68-year-old man from Gold Beach, Ore., was northbound in the slow lane and was unable to avoid a collision with the Pontiac, CHP officials said. The impact threw the Pontiac toward the frontage road, where it came to rest. The Toyota came to rest off the roadway near the right shoulder.
The driver of the Pontiac suffered fatal injuries in the collision. Her name and city of residence were not released pending notification of family.
