Galt police arrest man in fatal hit-and-run

A 62-year-old pedestrian died of injuries suffered when he was struck Thursday night by a pickup, Galt police said.

The man was walking across F Street when an eastbound driver of a white pickup hit him. The motorist stopped momentarily, but then drove away, continuing east on F Street.

The pedestrian, who has not been identified pending notification of family, died at UC Davis Medical Center.

Galt officers found a pickup matching the description of the hit-and-run vehicle in a neighborhood less than an hour after the crash. The truck had front-end damage consistent with what would have been sustained in the earlier collision.

A man was arrested, but his name has not been released.
