A Carmichael home sustained significant damage Wednesday evening after a fire that began in the attic spread to other areas of the house.
Michelle Eidam, spokeswoman for the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, said the fire in the 1800 block of Suffolk Way was reported at 6 p.m. She said the resident heard a crackling sound coming from the attic, then saw other evidence of fire and called 911. She said the home did have working smoke alarms.
The house included an addition, and the construction created some hidden spaces that made it difficult for firefighters to reach some areas of the fire, Eidam said. The house suffered extensive damage, but no cost estimate of the damage was immediately available and the cause of the fire has not been determined.
No one was injured.
