Three people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries after a vehicle pursuit on westbound Interstate 80 in Roseville ended in a crash on the Douglas Boulevard offramp.

The incident occurred about 4:15 p.m. Thursday when a California Highway Patrol officer attempted to stop a Toyota Camry on westbound I-80 at Eureka Road. Instead of pulling over, the driver of the Camry sped away, crossing traffic lanes and driving on the right shoulder, said CHP spokesman Officer David Martinez. He said the Camry struck two other vehicles at the Douglas Boulevard offramp and overturned. One of the other vehicles then struck a fourth vehicle.

Martinez said the driver of the Camry, a male, as well as the female drivers the two vehicles struck by the Camry, were taken to Sutter Roseville Medical Center with minor injuries. The driver of fourth vehicle, which sustained only minor damage, was not injured, he said. The drivers were the only occupants in each of the vehicles.

Martinez said it has not been determined why the Camry driver fled.

The Douglas Boulevard offramp was closed to traffic for about 45 minutes.
