A 25-year-old man shot outside his North Highlands residence Wednesday afternoon has died, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department reported Thursday.

The man’s name had not been released because his family had not been notified.

Sgt. Tony Turnbull, Sacramento County sheriff’s spokesman, said deputies responded shortly after 2 p.m. to a 911 call reporting gunshots in the 4000 block of Renick Way, just south of Madison Avenue. They found the man in the driveway of the home shot in the head. The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department took the man to a hospital.

Turnbull said deputies are looking for a man who reportedly shot the victim, then walked away toward Harrison Street.

Investigators do not know what the relationship was between the two men, Turnbull said, but they do not believe the shooting was random. They have not determined whether the attack was gang-related, he said.
