Man sought in Auburn armed robbery attempt

A man who attempted to rob two people at gunpoint in an Auburn parking lot early Wednesday morning is sought by police.

The incident occurred about 1:10 a.m. when a man walked into a parking lot near Auburn Folsom Road and Herdal Drive. The victim told police that he was approached by the man, who pointed a black handgun at the victim’s face and demanded everything he had, according to an Auburn Police Department news release. When the victim replied that he didn’t have anything, the would-be robber turned to a female passenger sitting in the victim’s vehicle.

The victim got between the man and the vehicle to protect the passenger. The man then ran to a late model blue Honda Accord and drove away.

Police said the victim described the would-be robber as a white man in his early 20s, with short brown hair, wearing a gray hoodie-type sweatshirt and a black bandana covering his face.
