Fire officials say a fire in an abandoned south Sacramento County building Monday evening is believed to have been accidentally started by homeless people.

Sacramento Metropolitan and Sacramento city firefighters responded to the site at Florin Road and Kara Drive, east of Power Inn Road, about 6:15 p.m. Capt. Michelle Eidam, spokeswoman for the Sacramento Metro district, said witnesses reported that homeless people had been staying at the boarded-up building, which appeared to have once housed a restaurant. She said the building had suffered previous fire damage.

Eidam said no one was injured and crews were able to quickly contain the fire.
