A pedestrian who ran across lanes on Interstate 80 near Douglas Boulevard on Thursday morning was struck and killed.
The first report to the California Highway Patrol at 5:30 a.m. indicated that a man was walking along the eastbound lanes of the freeway. A few minutes later, reports indicated that he had run across all lanes from the right hand shoulder to the center divider.
Later, word was received that he had been hit. An hour later, only one lane of westbound lanes of the freeway was open at Eureka Road so that officers could conduct an investigation. Rush-hour traffic backed up for miles as officers investigated.
