Sacramento police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a driver who left the scene after a collision that killed a 60-year-old man on Northgate Boulevard early Sunday.

In a news release, the department described the following chain of events: At about 1:15 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to a report of a man lying in the northbound lanes near the 3700 block of Northgate Boulevard. Sacramento fire personnel responded to the scene, and declared the man deceased. The victim is not identified in the release. He is described as a 60-year-old man, wearing dark clothing, who walked with a cane.

A review of the scene indicates the man was walking north along the east side of Northgate Boulevard when he was struck, according to the release. Police have no description of the vehicle that hit him, nor its driver. Detectives are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the department’s hit-and-run tip line at (916) 808-3060. People also can submit an anonymous tip using the free “P3 TIPs” smartphone app.
