Update: Two people dead, two injured in West Sacramento collision

Two people died and two others were injured a three-vehicle collision Monday afternoon in West Sacramento.

Officer Ryan Lukins of the West Sacramento Police Department confirmed the two deaths Monday evening. Although initial reports indicated five people had been injured, Lukins said there were four victims.

Police spokesman Sgt. Roger Kinney said the crash occurred about 4:30 p.m. at Southport Parkway and Lake Washington Boulevard. He said two people were trapped and had to be extricated by firefighters using the jaws of life.

A helicopter ambulance transported victims to an area hospital, Kinney said.

No information was available on how the collision occurred.

Lukins said the area of Southport Parkway and Lake Washington Boulevard was expected to be closed to traffic for several hours.
