Transient accused of attacking N. Sacramento woman

A man with a criminal record dating back more than 20 years is back in jail, accused of attacking a woman while working as a day laborer in a North Sacramento neighborhood.

Orlando Martin, 40, was doing yard work at a home in the 1000 block of Lochbrae Road at 3:17 p.m. March 31, when he allegedly jumped over a fence into the victim’s backyard, said Sacramento police spokesman Sgt. Bryce Heinlein. Martin grabbed some wire fencing and made jabbing motions at the woman, who was in her backyard, then pushed her into her house and attacked her.

The woman was able to fight him off and escape to a neighbor’s house.

Martin was arrested on suspicion of burglary, kidnapping to commit another crime and removing or destroying a wireless communication device to prevent someone from summoning assistance. He remains in Sacramento County jail with bail set at $450,000. His next court date is April 19.

Heinlein said Martin is listed as a transient.

Sacramento Superior Court records show Martin has been the subject of 17 other criminal cases dating back to 1994. He was sentenced in 2002 to five years in state prison for assault with a deadly weapon, and in 2009 to six years and four months in state prison for offenses, including vehicle theft.
