The body of an apparent homicide victim was found Thursday morning in the parking lot of a Denny’s restaurant in Sacramento.
Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District crews were called to the location, 1322 Howe Ave, at 9 a.m., after a witness found a man who appeared to be unconscious in the parking lot.
Firefighters pronounced him dead at the scene. Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies were called after paramedics noticed trauma to his upper body.
Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Tony Turnbull said the victim is a white male in his 40s.

The restaurant and parking lot were surrounded by police tape. Restaurant employees were seen leaving the restaurant as more than a dozen deputies and plainclothes officers took over the area.
