A man convicted of fatally stabbing his wife in 2013 has been sentenced to 16 years to life in prison.
A Sacramento County jury in January found Kiem Thuong Tran, 34, guilty of second-degree murder and found that he used a knife in committing the crime, according to a Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office news release. He was sentenced Friday by Sacramento Superior Court Judge Michael Sweet.
On Oct. 10, 2013, Tran and his wife, Phuong Nguyen, went to a party at a friend’s house where Tran consumed a number of beers. After returning home, the two began to argue. Tran ended up stabbing his wife six times in the back and twice in the chest, authorities said.
An hour after the stabbing, Tran’s blood alcohol level was between 0.12 and 0.17 percent, prosecutors said.
