Teen who drowned in American River near Auburn is identified

The Sacramento teen whose body was recovered from the north fork of the American River west of Auburn over the weekend has been identified.

The Placer County Sheriff-Coroner has identified the teen as 17-year-old Aaron Vang of Sacramento.

Vang drowned Saturday morning. His body was recovered the next day about 100 yards downstream from where he went under near the confluence of the north and middle forks of the river.

Vang’s friends said they were unsure why he entered the water, according to a park ranger.
