A Sacramento man has been arrested in the hit-and-run death of a woman who was struck by a vehicle Saturday on Watt Avenue in the Arden Arcade area.
Ramiro Martinez Delacruz, 40, was driving a 1998 Ford F-150 truck northbound on Watt Avenue, north of Lynne Way, as a woman was walking northbound on Watt Avenue on the east side of the roadway. The truck struck the woman, who landed on the frontage road on the east side of Watt Avenue, according to a California Highway Patrol news release. The woman, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.
CHP officials said Delacruz left the scene in the Ford, which was later found by Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies at Watt Avenue and Winona Way. Delacruz was booked into Sacramento County jail on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, hit and run, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, violation of DUI probation and driving on a suspended license.
CHP investigators ask anyone who may have witnessed the collision or been in the area between 11 p.m. Friday and 1:30 p.m. Saturday, or who may have information pertaining to the case, to call the Special Investigations Unit at the North Sacramento Area CHP office at 916-348-2300 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
