Update: All lanes reopen on eastbound I-80 after fatal collision
Eastbound Interstate 80 at Northgate Boulevard in Sacramento was closed for nearly three hours Wednesday afternoon for investigation of a fatal collision involving a motorcycle and a big rig.
The collision occurred about 3:15 p.m. just west of Northgate Boulevard.
CHP spokeswoman Officer Jenna Berry said an eastbound motorcyclist lost control of the motorcycle and struck the rear of another eastbound vehicle. The motorcycle then went down under the rear wheel of a big rig. The motorcyclist, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Berry said no one else was injured in the collision.
The No. 1 and 2 eastbound I-80 lanes were reported open at 6:09 p.m. All lanes were reopened by 6:40 p.m., the CHP reported.
