A man who died early Wednesday in a bizarre attack on a motorist at an Arden Arcade apartment complex has been identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as 23-year-old Devon Riley.
The coroner’s website did not list a city of residence for Riley, who died when his body hit parked cars as he tried to wrest control of a vehicle while reaching through an open window in the 1200 block of Fulton Avenue.
The Sacramento County sheriff’s communications center received calls reporting that a man was hitting cars with a fire extinguisher in the complex.
The driver of a 2013 Toyota Camry, attempting to enter the complex about 1:55 a.m., opened the driver’s=side window of his vehicle to use the keypad. As he did so, Riley attacked the driver through the open window, authorities said. The driver accelerated to get away from Riley, according to a California Highway Patrol news release. Riley partially entered the window with his upper body and took control of the steering wheel.
