One person died Sunday afternoon when four vehicles were involved in a crash on eastbound U.S. Highway 50 near Howe Avenue.
After 5:30 p.m., a driver under the influence of alcohol in the far left lane rear-ended a vehicle, said California Highway Patrol Officer Michael Bradley. The struck vehicle veered to the right shoulder of the highway and hit what appeared to be a parked vehicle, Bradley said.
The driver of the rear-ended car died due to major injuries, said Bradley, who did not disclose the identity of the victim.
A fourth car was found rolled over at the scene, and the driver suffered minor injuries, said Bradley. Police have not disclosed the role of that car in the incident.
