A motorcyclist died Tuesday morning after his motorcycle struck a guardrail of an Elkhorn Boulevard onramp to westbound Interstate 80.
The crash occurred about 8 a.m. as the man was riding a 2003 Buell motorcycle on the eastbound ramp. The motorcycle was traveling at high speed in the high-occupancy-vehicle lane when the rider lost control and the motorcycle struck the guardrail, according to a California Highway Patrol news release. The rider landed in the No. 2 lane of the ramp.
The motorcycle rider died at the scene, the CHP reported. His name had not been released pending notification of family.
The rider was wearing a helmet. CHP officials said it had not been determined whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
