A man and woman are in custody after leading sheriff’s deputies on a high speed chase Sunday morning near Interstate 80 near Sacramento.
Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies were leaving a call on Wright Street near Edison Avenue in north Sacramento about 9 a.m. Sunday, say sheriff’s officials, when they heard gunfire and alerted other deputies in the area.
Almost immediately, the deputies saw a vehicle speeding down Edison and past the deputies’ cruiser, officials said. A brief chase ensued, but officers who joined the chase laid a tack strip on the onramp to westbound Interstate 80 at Madison Avenue, disabling the vehicle.
Deputies found a handgun in the car, and the unidentified woman behind the wheel and her male passenger were taken into custody. Both had outstanding warrants, according to sheriff’s officials.
