Sacramento police say the condition of a woman’s body recovered from the American River near the Guy West bicycle and foot bridge Friday morning was not consistent with drowning.
Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators were summoned to the scene to begin an investigation, according to a Police Department news release.
Sacramento firefighters were called to the scene about 10:18 a.m. to recover the body discovered floating downriver between the Guy West Bridge and the H Street Bridge near Sacramento State. The body was recovered by firefighters from the River Park station who were already in a boat on the river for training.
The body was spotted on the Sacramento State side of the river by citizens who called 911. Firefighters brought the body to the shore.
