CHP officer hurt in collision with suspected DUI driver in Grass Valley

A California Highway Patrol officer assigned to the CHP’s Grass Valley office was injured Monday afternoon when his patrol vehicle was hit from behind on Highway 49.

The crash occurred about 2:30 p.m. at La Barr Meadows Road. The CHP reported that Officer R. Douglas was flown by helicopter to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, where he was undergoing evaluation and treatment late Monday. The officer’s injuries were described as minor to moderate. He was the only occupant of the patrol car.

The driver of the other vehicle also was injured, but there was no word on whether that driver required medical attention. Following an evaluation, the driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of controlled substances, according to a CHP news release. The driver was not identified in the release.
