Yolo County sheriff’s deputies said Monday they have arrested two people in connection with a shooting last week in a rural part of the county.
Deputies said they arrested Maximiliano Salas and his girlfriend, Janet Roy Garcia, both 49, in connection with the shooting Thursday afternoon. The incident took place outside a fifth-wheel trailer occupied by Salas and parked on County Road 16A, north of the unincorporated community of Yolo.
The victim, whose identity wasn’t released, was shot once in the lower abdomen and taken to an area hospital. The victim’s condition wasn’t known.
Salas was arrested at the scene and charged with assault with a deadly weapon and being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. He was being held on $170,000 bail.

Garcia was arrested the following morning on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm. She was being held on a $1.09 million bail; deputies said her high bail is due to previous offenses.
Salas and the victim were friends, and a motive remains unclear. But both “appeared to be extremely intoxicated at the time of the shooting,” according to the Sheriff’s Department.
