Man arrested in burglaries targeting Asian restaurants
A man suspected of a series of burglaries targeting Asian restaurants in Sacramento and Elk Grove has been arrested.
The suspect, identified as 45-year-old Andy Hon Vo Chong, was taken into custody Thursday night after Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies conducted a traffic stop near Watt Avenue and Folsom Boulevard, according to a Sacramento Police Department news release. He was booked into Sacramento County jail on suspicion of multiple counts of burglary and is being held in lieu of $500,000 bail.
Sacramento and Elk Grove police had issued surveillance photos of a man sought in connection with area restaurant burglaries. The most recent incident occurred about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Hong Kong Islander restaurant on Freeport Boulevard in Sacramento. The man suspected in the burglary was captured on surveillance video at a nearby convenience store after the break-in at the restaurant, according to Sacramento police.
Chong is scheduled to appear in Sacramento Superior Court on Tuesday.
