Suspect kills himself during Arden Arcade standoff
A man charged with assault with a deadly weapon and other felony counts allegedly killed himself hours after barricading himself in an Arden Arcade house. Officers had tried to arrest the man on a $1.5 million outstanding warrant.
Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies arrived at the house on the 1000 block of Clinton Road a little after 10 p.m. Friday and saw the 31-year-old suspect go inside, according to a statement released by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department.
When deputies contacted the man at the front door, officials said, he barricaded himself inside and told deputies he had a gun. A woman left the house as deputies surrounded the building and evacuated several nearby residences.
The suspect initially talked to sheriff’s negotiators but refused to surrender. He stopped talking after several hours and, at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, tactical officers entered the house and found the man’s body in a bedroom with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the Sheriff’s Department said.
The man’s identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin. He faced charges of assault with a deadly weapon, firearms and drug-related charges, the Sheriff’s Department said.
