Car chase ends in gunfire, fatality in Fair Oaks
A late-night car chase ended in a fatal shooting on a tree-lined stretch of Fair Oaks Boulevard on Saturday, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call at 9 p.m. Saturday reporting two vehicles involved in a chase in the 10500 block of Fair Oaks Boulevard in Fair Oaks, according to a written release from spokesman Tony Turnbull. The caller heard a bang, went outside to check on the situation and reported seeing a man slumped over in a vehicle, Turnbull said.
Deputies found a man in his 20s suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. The victim was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead. Another person, thought to be the driver of the vehicle the victim was found in, fled, according to Turnbull, but was found and detained by deputies a short distance away.
Authorities had not yet released the victim’s identity, pending notification of family. Turnbull said investigators did not know a motive in the shooting.
