Two gun stores in Elk Grove were smashed open Sunday morning, but thieves failed to get any weapons.
Continuing a trend in Northern California of thieves burglarizing gun shops, Laguna Guns and Accessories at 2200 Kausen Drive was hit at about 6:10 a.m. Sunday. Elk Grove police said that three men used a vehicle to smash into the front door of the business.
The intruders could not find any weapons to take and left empty-handed.

A short time later, three thieves used a vehicle to smash into the front entrance of MTG Firearms at 9174 Franklin Blvd. The burglars again left without stealing any weapons.
The burglars in each case were wearing masks, hooded sweatshirts and gloves.
While the Elk Grove burglaries were not fruitful for the thieves, other break-ins have resulted in weapons ending up in the hands of criminals. Thieves took guns from a Rocklin store earlier in May.
In March, a Petaluma gun store was burglarized by four men who rammed a store to get inside and left with a dozen weapons. Also in March, four men tried to steal guns from an El Cerrito gun shop but were not successful.
