Arizona man killed, passenger injured in Truckee collision
An Arizona man died and his passenger was seriously injured Sunday evening when their vehicle collided with a box truck in Truckee.
Truckee police and fire units responded to the crash on Glenshire Drive at Old Highway 40 about 7:21 p.m. A 26-foot Enterprise rental box truck was westbound on Glenshire Drive when an eastbound Suzuki SX4 apparently crossed the center line and collided with the truck, according to a Police Department news release.
The driver of the Suzuki, identified by police as 36-year-old Patrick Wayne Smiley of Chandler, Ariz., was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, 30-year-old Amber Harder of Truckee, suffered major injuries and was taken by air ambulance to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, according to police.
The driver and passenger in the box truck were not injured.
Excessive speed appeared to have played a role in the collision, police said.
The crash remained under investigation, and police asked anyone with information pertaining to the collision to call Officer Mark Victors at 530-550-2320.
