Sacramento woman identified as Jackson Highway crash victim

The Sacramento County coroner has released the name of the woman killed last week when a driver crossed over the center line and crashed head-on into her vehicle on Jackson Highway.

Coroner’s deputies identified the woman as Judy Townsend, 70, of Sacramento.

The California Highway Patrol said that the driver of a Nissan, identified by the coroner as Jason Keating, 47, of Rancho Murieta, died at the scene of the crash just east of Kiefer Boulevard around 11 p.m. May 3.

Townsend died of injuries at UC Davis Medical Center the next day.

Witnesses told CHP officers that Keating was eastbound on Jackson Highway at a high rate of speed. For unknown reasons, Keating veered to the left toward oncoming westbound traffic.

During that maneuver, he sideswiped a Volkswagen, causing that car to overturn. Keating continued down the road and crashed head-on into Townsend’s car.

A passenger in the Volkswagen suffered a minor injury.
