Up to nine garbage cans set alight in East Sacramento overnight

The Sacramento Fire Department extinguished up to nine garbage can fires in East Sacramento Monday night.

After putting out the first fire at a little before 2 a.m., the firefighters on the truck returning to the station noticed more fires, according to Fire Department spokesman Roberto Padilla. The fires were mainly on 55th Street, north of Folsom Boulevard and the firefighters put them out on their way back to the station.

No one was injured and no houses caught fire, but one fence was damaged. The department has no leads at this time and asked the public to report any suspicious activity.
