A vehicle that crashed into a power pole on Elk Grove Boulevard late Tuesday afternoon knocked out power to thousands Sacramento Municipal Utility District customers in the Laguna area.

The single-vehicle crash was reported about 4:40 p.m. in the 8600 block of Elk Grove Boulevard. Police reported about 5:40 p.m. that the vehicle had been removed from the scene.

A caller to The Sacramento Bee, who identified himself as Tony Perez, an Elk Grove Unified School District Board member, said an employee spent two hours stuck in an elevator at the district’s headquarters at 9510 Elk Grove Florin Road due to the outage. The employee was able to exit the elevator shortly before 6:30 p.m., when power was restored in that area, Perez said.
