Ask Sacto 911 crime Q&A: What happened to former TV news anchor’s ex-fiancé who was accused of shoplifting scheme?
Q: What ever happened to Nicholas Gray, the fiancé of Sabrina Rodriguez, who was being charged with many crimes?
R, Davis
A: Nicholas Gray, the ex-fiancé of former Fox40 news anchor Sabrina Rodriguez, was sentenced in two cases in April.
In the 2013 case, in which Rodriguez was a co-defendant, Gray pleaded no contest to grand theft, burglary and conspiracy and was sentenced April 28 to 16 months in state prison, according to Sacramento Superior Court records available online. On the same day, he pleaded no contest in a 2014 case to manufacturing drugs, arson and battery and received a seven-year prison sentence.
According to stories in The Sacramento Bee, Gray had prior convictions for burglary, resisting an officer, felony stalking and felony transportation of marijuana.
He currently is incarcerated at Deuel Vocational Institution in Tracy.
Rodriguez, who resigned from Fox40 after she was was charged with three felony counts in July 2014, pleaded no contest in January 2015 to a single misdemeanor theft charge. Authorities originally alleged that Rodriguez and Gray engaged in a shoplifting scheme and that she had pinpointed expensive wallets at a Coach store at the Folsom Outlets that Gray later swept into a bag he was carrying.
Rodriguez maintained that she was innocent, saying that she knew Gray had shoplifted in the past but that she knew nothing about his alleged shoplifting of the wallets at the Coach store.
Under a plea deal, she agreed to pay $2,480 in restitution and was to wear a monitoring device for 30 days.
